"Seasons"
Too often we live in stasis, oblivious to the flux of life around us. We seek stability, but attaining it can be a recipe for both stagnation and terminal decline. In all things, for growth to happen there needs to be change, there needs to be periods of discomfort, pain, and uncertainty. Only then can we find an ascent to new plateaus. Living perpetually in the precious summer sun will bun us all in the end.
If for no other reason the autumn chill calls upon the immediacy of much needed change. In the natural world it is the last burst of energy before winter hibernation. To think that it is a time to sit back and rest is folly for a human being, because we don’t hibernate. To thrive we need to feed. The only way to stay warm when halted by the winter freeze is to keep moving. Save the warm fires, hearty food and deep reds for another time.
Physical, psychological, and inner change are all intertwined. They are just different expressions of the same phenomenon. Sometimes, to change the mind it is best to change the body. To open the heart you need to suffer. The physical can be a doorway to the spiritual if you know how.
Working the earth is a reworking of ourselves. As such it can be either trivial or profound, but the effect it has depends entirely on the disposition we choose. If we make the correct decision the change is something felt in every aspect of our being. The seasons don’t carry us along, but they are a helpful reminder to keep moving of our own accord, lest we find ourselves unprepared for what’s in store.
Sleet, rain, frost, and the ticking of the clock are our catalysts now. Winter is nearing and there is much work to be done. Delay leads to decay. Set the fire and let it burn, just don’t settle in.
